Local Government Service Job Recruitment for February 2024

The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), in accordance with its mandate of ensuring the effective and efficient day-to-day administration of the Local Government Service (LGS) as provided in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), is seeking a highly successful and result-oriented individual to fill the position of Regional Director, Department of Agriculture.

JOB PURPOSE

To lead the development of agriculture and the sustainability of the agro-environment in the service.

JOB SUMMARY

• Promotes policies, methods, and agricultural technology to enhance agribusiness, agro processing, and crop/animal/fish production;
• Submit timely reports on agricultural conditions, seasons, and activities.
• Represents the Department on Regional Food and Agriculture Committees.
• Manages people, financial, and material resources to effectively implement agricultural programs.
• Conducts field schools, workshops, and seminars to evaluate farmer participation and adoption of new farming technologies and techniques;
• Collaborates with key stakeholders to improve agriculture service delivery.
• Enhances personnel talents, skills, and knowledge.
• Appraises direct reports.
• Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master’s degree in Agriculture, such as Animal Health, Veterinary, Crops, Fisheries, and Economics, or a related field.
• As a Director of Agriculture, you must have at least 15 years of progressive experience in the Local Government Service (LGS) or an equivalent Public Sector institution, including at least 6 years in Senior Management.
• Be a member of a recognized professional body.

• Public Finance Management\Demonstrates leadership and managerial skills.
• Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
• Strong oral and written communication abilities.
• Strong problem-solving, negotiating, and interpersonal abilities.
• Strong monitoring and evaluation skills.
• Expertise in Public Sector Management, Project Management, Local Government Administration, and applicable legislation.
• Strong analytical abilities; and
• IT literacy
