Regarding the University of Maine
The University of Maine, the flagship campus of the University of Maine System, was established in 1865 and is a land, sea, and space grant university. This lively and active university, which is situated in Orono along the banks of the Stillwater River, uses its teaching, research, and outreach missions to benefit Maine, the United States, and the world.
Every county in Maine, as well as more than 49 other states and 81 foreign nations, sends students to the University of Maine. Students can obtain graduate certificates, master’s, doctorate, or professional science master’s degrees through the more than 100 degree programs that UMaine offers. Our goal is to provide opportunities for everyone who is a part of the University of Maine community and its constituents.
An excellent traditional education is provided at a reasonable cost by the University of Maine. UMaine is a top university in New England. We offer a wide range of programs and opportunities to assist students in becoming success stories. Selecting an Academic Program
On your application, indicate your top and second choices for courses of study. You can also let us know if you’re not sure which program at a certain college to pursue. You can find information here on particular academic programs.
Academic Preparation
Coursework in high school should aim for at least college preparatory level. Coursework in advanced, honors, or AP is recommended. Four units of English, three to four units of mathematics (at least geometry and algebra I and II; some programs require advanced mathematics), two to three units of lab science (which some programs require), two units of a foreign language, and two to three units of social studies are required of candidates. It is highly suggested to do courses in computer science and visual arts.
Transfer students may substitute finished college courses for any mandatory courses they did not complete in high school.

Scholarship Opportunities from Other UMaine Sources

School of Forest Resources Scholarships
The School of Forest Resources grants scholarships totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars to both new and returning students every year. Important due dates:
The only way for students to be considered for all UMaine foreign scholarships is to have a full undergraduate application on file. If you apply before these dates, all students who apply (both first-year and transfer) will be considered for honor scholarships:
- For spring entry, you must apply by November 1 of the previous year.
- To get into the school for the fall, you must apply by February 1 of the same year. Students who apply after these dates will be considered for grants if funds are still available.
