Study Abroad: Rotary Peace Fellowships 2025

Applications for Rotary Peace Fellowships for the 2025–2026 term are being accepted through May 15, 2024. Master’s degrees and professional development certifications in peace and development studies are available through these fully funded options at esteemed partner institutions such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, the University of Bradford, and others.

With full academic and living expenses paid, the Rotary Peace Fellowship serves as a light of hope for aspirant leaders around the world, enabling them to effectively act as catalysts for peace. The pursuit of peace is more important than ever in light of the ongoing conflicts around the world, and education is essential to promoting both peace and development on a worldwide scale.

The Rotary Peace Centers program helps peace and development professionals become more capable of acting as effective catalysts for peace by providing them with academic training, real-world experience, and international networking opportunities. The fellowships pay for housing and board, round-trip airfare, internships, and field study costs, as well as tuition and fees.

Since the program’s inception in 2002, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained over 1,700 fellows, and they are currently working in more than 140 countries. Many work as leaders in international organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations, as well as in governments, non-governmental organizations, education and research institutions, peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies, and more.

Our fellowships

Leaders with prior experience working in the fields of peace and development are eligible for the Rotary Peace Fellowship. Our fellows are dedicated to serving their communities around the world and to promoting peace. Up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and up to 80 fellowships for certificate programs at prestigious universities are given out annually by the Rotary Foundation.

The Rotary Peace Fellowship offers two options:

• Selected applicants teach a diverse student body about peace and development concerns using research-informed instruction. The programs last from 15 to 24 months, and part of them is a self-designed two- to three-month field study.
• Skilled peace and development experts from all backgrounds acquire hands-on abilities to advance peace in their communities and areas during the one-year blended learning program. In addition to doing fieldwork, fellows create and implement social change projects. Working professionals are the target audience for this program. Fellows who complete the program are awarded a post-graduate diploma.

Fellowships for Future Leaders with Full Funding

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is intended for those who are outstanding in their fields and who are dedicated to advocating for peace, serving their community, and traveling abroad.

Up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 80 fellowships for certificate programs are given out each year; all of these awards include tuition, fees, housing and board, transportation, and all costs associated with internships and field research.

Qualifications:

To be qualified for the 2025–2026 Rotary Peace Fellowship:

• English proficiency is necessary.
• A bachelor’s degree is required for the Master’s program; five years of relevant full-time experience are required for the certificate program.
• A strong dedication to promoting peace and understanding amongst cultures.
• Shown promise for leadership.
• Personal peace promotion strategy in line with Rotary’s objectives.
• Fulfill the particular requirements of the selected university program.
• For a master’s degree, you must have at least three years of recent relevant experience.
• Experience in development or peacebuilding fields is required for the certificate.
• Not enrolled in any graduate or undergraduate programs at this time.
• There must be a minimum of three years between the commencement date of the fellowship and the most recent academic degree.
• Encouragement of applications from people of different origins and with impairments.

Eligibility for certificate programs

To be eligible for the certificate program at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, candidates must either be native Africans, have experience working there, support African communities or efforts outside, or exhibit a strong desire to learn about regional peacebuilding strategies.

Applicants to the certificate program at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, must be either native to the Middle East or North Africa, have experience working there, are employed abroad with communities or projects related to these regions, or exhibit a strong desire to learn about regional peacebuilding strategies.

Restrictions on eligibility

Rotary Peace Fellowships are not able to fund doctoral research. The following individuals are not qualified to receive the fellowship:

• Rotaract members who are also active members of Rotary, or vice versa
• personnel of Rotary International, a Rotary club or district, or another Rotary organization
• Former Rotary members and their relatives as described above; spouses of lineal descendants (children or grandchildren by blood or legal adoption); spouses of lineal descendants; or ancestors (parents or grandparents by blood) of any living individual in these categories

* Members of Rotaract clubs who are not also members of Rotary clubs may apply.

• The time between the end of the applicant’s most recent academic program (undergraduate or graduate degree) and the desired start date of the fellowship must be at least three years. Applicants who are enrolled in graduate or undergraduate programs right now are not eligible to apply.
• After completing a master’s program, certificate program, or Global Grant Scholarship, Rotary Peace Fellows are required to wait three years before applying for the fellowship again.
